All is now set for the formal defection of Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). Gov. Mbah will be the third governor elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to defect to the APC, after governors of Akwa Ibom and Delta states, Pastor Umo Eno and Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori who had joined earlier in the year.

This is, as the National Chairman of the APC, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda has charged the newly inaugurated Enugu State Caretaker Committee to work assiduously to rebuild the party in the state.

Yilwatda who spoke while inaugurating the Caretaker Committee admonished them to always remember that leadership requires sacrifice and dedication “We expect so much from you. You need to rebuild and refocus the party so that it will expand, therefore you must encourage more people to join the APC, and also nurture the old members who have laboured and built the party. You must not throw away the old members because of the new entrants.

“APC is home for all and those who are coming today and tomorrow must have equal rights and opportunities like other people. “You must respect and abide by the party Constitution, and that is why we followed all legal routes in desolving the former SEC. They were sent memos and they replied and the National Working Committee (NWC) saw reasons to disband them. “We are working towards elections. We want to ensure that we have overwhelming success and outing in 2027. The Renew Hope Agenda has achieved much. Within the health sector, we have delivered three cancer centres that we promised six in four years. We have delivered three already. We are sure that in the next two years we will deliver the remaining three. We promised to revitalise 10,000 primary health centres. We have delivered over 6,000 already. We are sure that in the next two years the 10,000 will meet. For every promise we make, we keep the hope of Nigerians alive”.

Addressing newsmen after the inauguration, Chairman of the Caretaker Committee, Dr. Ben Nwoye said they have accepted the responsibility and have even started implementing some of the charges given to them by the party, which is to encourage more people to join the party. He assured that already they have gotten the governor, Dr. Peter Mbah who will formally be declaring for the APC on Tuesday, October 14. “For the past 10 years, Enugu State has remained in opposition. But all that will change, Tuesday, the 14th of October 2024, when the governor will be declaring for APC. And the governor is not coming alone. The governor is coming in with 260 ward councillors. They will be declaring with the governor. He will be coming in with the 24 members of House of Assembly. He will be coming in with members of the National Assembly. He will also be coming with the entire EXCO. Nwoye said the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu will work in sync with the development strides of Governor Mbah. He added that they intend to extend their expansionist efforts to Anambra and Abia states.
