Every member of the Enugu State caucus in the House of Representatives has officially defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The announcement came during Thursday\u2019s plenary session, where Speaker Tajudeen Abbas read the lawmakers\u2019 letters of resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Labour Party (LP).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The defection, witnessed by Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State, marks a clean sweep for the APC in the state\u2019s representation at the lower chamber of the National Assembly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to the defectors, their move was driven by unresolved internal wrangling within their former parties, which they said had destabilized the opposition and hindered effective representation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Following the 2023 elections, the Labour Party had held seven of Enugu\u2019s eight federal constituencies, with the PDP taking one.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
With this latest development, the APC now controls all eight.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Speaking on behalf of the group, Hon. Nnolim Nnaji, who represents Nkanu East\/Nkanu West Federal Constituency, said their decision was inspired by Governor Mbah\u2019s developmental strides and the desire to align Enugu with the federal government\u2019s agenda.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cJust visit Enugu and see the transformation taking place,\u201d Nnaji said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe want to bring our state into the mainstream of national politics and ensure our people are not left behind. This isn\u2019t just politics, it\u2019s about progress and partnership.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He described the defection as \u201ca courageous step toward the future,\u201d emphasizing that it would open doors to more federal projects, job opportunities, and infrastructure development across the state.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cFor too long, Enugu has remained in the opposition, watching from the sidelines. That era is over,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cBy joining the APC, we\u2019re connecting our people to the centre of national development.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The lawmakers who defected include Martins Oke, Anayo Onwuegbu, Nnamdi Agbo, Nnolim Nnaji, and Mark Obetta.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
